The greatest compliment a designer can receive on their own home is “this is you in apartment form.” So goes the cozy chaos of this alcove studio in London Terrace Gardens. Built in 1930, The Gardens stretches from 9th to 11th avenue, covering an entire Chelsea block in its majestic mass.
To create a modern retreat in this historical monument, Studio Sanjaro played on the tension between rigidity and amorphosness, tradition and disruption. Custom mirrors from Nicholas Devlin and bulbous shapes of Tom Dixon stand in contrast against the metallic USM Haller pieces and clean lines of the Vitsoe shelving. The result is like walking through the designers brain.
